The Game: KiwiVolley is a modified version of Volleyball to make it easier for primary aged children. This game is played on a badminton court, with a 1.8m net. Teams have four players on the court at a time, but we recommend teams of six players, with players rotating on and off the court. The ball used is specially designed for young volleyballers, it is softer and lighter so easy for young players to manage.
Years 3 & 4: Are only allowed two contacts to return the ball over the net. One catch and one hit (it must be in that order). The same player cannot make both contacts. Year three & four teams will rotate at the completion of every rally. The service is made by the team who won the previous point. The server must be more than one metre from the net.
Years 5 & 6: There are three hits per team, the ideal sequence is…….Pass, Set, Spike. A ball passed to a teammate may be caught and immediately thrown (rather than hit). The contact that plays the ball over the net (usually the 3rd contact) MUST be hit. The ball can be hit with ANY part of the body. Players rotate in a clockwise direction when the serve has been won off the opposition team. After five serves from one player, the team must rotate. A point is scored every rally.
