Attendance
Regular school attendance is vital for your child to achieve their full educational potential. Our school is committed to working with whānau to ensure every student attends regularly.
To report an absence please message 027 584 2592 and include the child’s name, room number and reason for absence.
Our Goal
The government target is 80% regular attendance by 2030. Our school's current regular attendance is 71%, and we are targeting an increase to 80% by the end of 2026.
Our Approach: Stepped Attendance Response (STAR)
We use the Stepped Attendance Response (STAR) procedure to proactively identify and respond to student absences. This approach ensures support is tailored to the level and reasons for absence.
Parent/Whānau Expectations and Responsibilities
Parents and guardians have a legal obligation (Education and Training Act, s 244) to ensure their children attend school regularly when it is open for instruction. We expect parents/guardians to:
Notify the school as soon as possible if your child is going to be late or absent.
Arrange appointments and trips outside school hours or during school holidays where possible.
Work with the school to manage any attendance concerns.
What you can expect if your child ….
-
We will stay in regular contact with you about your child’s attendance.
-
We will work with you to identify any barriers to attendance.
-
We will work with you to develop a plan to support their attendance and learning, and may provide support to help them catch up and stay on track.
-
We will continue to work with you to implement the plan and will seek support from the Attendance Service or other agencies to support their return to school.
