Nyree Hanna - Room 7

Year 4 & 5 Teacher & Team Leader

I am in my third year teaching at OPS.  I enjoy teaching in Kea Team and am lucky to have a great class of Year 4 and 5 students this year.  I am passionate about teaching and get excited seeing children progress in their learning.

I was born in Tauranga and having moved away for a few years was drawn back to spend time with my family.  In my spare time I can be found on the golf course, giving my new love of triathlons a go or watching a variety of sports.

Wayne Miller - Room 9

Year 4 Teacher

This is my fourth year at Otumoetai Primary, having previously taught at Tauranga Intermediate School after returning from an extended time overseas teaching and travelling. I'm really enjoying teaching in Kea team and love seeing the kids excited smiles each morning. I'm passionate about my sport and look forward to contributing my skills to help students enjoy and get the most out of their sporting experiences. As well as sport, I love teaching in the classroom and guiding students to greater achievements with their core subjects. I aim to encourage students to develop into confident, responsible, life-long learners.

Outside of school I love spending time with my family and in the outdoors. I enjoy spending time at the beach, swimming, surfing or supporting my daughters at surf lifesaving. Equally, I love getting away from it all up in the Kaimais, exploring the many great tracks at our doorstep, or camping at some remote location. You may also see me out running around my local community, Otumoetai.

Jo Denny - Room 10

Year 4 Teacher

I have been a teacher at Otumoetai Primary School for over ten years. During this time I have had the opportunity to teach at every year level of the school. This year I am teaching a magnificent class of year 4 students. I am passionate about learning and fostering students’ natural curiosity about the world around them. I have a degree in Science and use this curriculum area extensively in my classroom teaching, integrating Science where possible with Maths, Literacy and the Arts.

Sarah Hetherington - Room 12

Year 3 & 4 Teacher

This is my first year teaching at OPS after coming off 18 months maternity leave. Prior to having my son, I taught at Mount Maunganui Intermediate for 4 years. I have been a teacher since 2010, with the majority of my teaching being at a Year 7/8 level.

I look forward to joining the team at OPS and am excited about working with Year 3/4 students. Creating safe environments for my students, and having them excited about their learning journey is something I feel strongly about as an educator.

My family and I lived locally with two of my daughters attending OPS. I love being active in the outdoors. We enjoy going mountain biking, bush walks, playing touch rugby, netball and kiwi tag, and heading to the beach. Spending time with my friends and family is also important during my spare time.

Katie Wallace - Room 8

Year 4 & 5 Teacher

Kia ora
I am new to OPS and feel privileged to be the new kaiako of Room 8 and in the Kea team. For the last five years I have been teaching at Tauranga Intermediate School and before that in Auckland, London and Hamilton.
I grew up in Tauranga and as a young child I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I have two daughters who are 5 and 3 and they love teaching their dolls too; maybe it's in the blood!
I love animals, teaching Maths and Literacy and spending time with family and friends. Going camping, gardening and bike riding are also favourite past times.
I am a passionate teacher. It is my goal for my students to thrive in my classroom learning environment, feel valued, and be successful.
