Principal's Welcome
Kia ora koutou
Otumoetai Primary School is a U6 Decile 7 contributing school with a history dating back to 1895. We are a well-resourced school and able to provide for the diverse learning needs of a large community and reflect strong traditional values. We are also a partner in out-of-school care programmes.
We welcome and encourage parent participation and active involvement in all aspects of school life. The school also recognizes and accepts its dual cultural heritage and has in place polices and practices that support both our dual and increasingly multi-cultural heritage.
Our purpose is to provide a secure and challenging learning environment of equal opportunity for all our students that emphasises literacy, numeracy, appropriate social skills and an on-going love of learning.
Our motto "Work together – Learn together" takes on real significance within a community of learners where both teachers and students are learning, where students are encouraged to be interdependent in enquiry, and where new knowledge is being constructed.
Our classroom programmes reflect the need for our children receive the best opportunities possible to become self-motivated and successful learners, to be recognised for achievement and diligence and to develop an on-going love of learning.
We have a vision for our children that they will learn within a positive, safe, friendly and stimulating environment developing:
* The skills to effectively self manage in different areas of their lives
* The abilities to relate effectively and respectfully to others in a range of real-life contexts
* A sense of pride and worth from participating in, and contributing to, the groups to which they belong
* Abilities to understand and express themselves through a variety of contexts particularly literacy, numeracy and the creative arts
* a range of critical and creative thinking strategies and applying them in a diversity of contexts.
* As C21 learners they will be skilled and confident in: assessing quality, relevancy and authenticity, the use of a range of technologies and creating, expressing and exploring inquiry in a range of authentic contexts
* We encourage our students to take risks and accept that both success and failure are paths to learning. In feeling valued as people and for their efforts they will, in turn, show courtesy and respect for others, developing self control and self discipline with high standards of behaviour.
* And in our school we value relationships built on values including humour, honesty and openness, integrity and courage, respect and concern for others.
Welcome to our school.
